What a weekend! The talented Grenfell Public Marimba Ensemble travelled to Sydney on Thursday, November 23 to perform at Spec Fest as part of the School Spectacular over the weekend. We combined with Parkes East Public School and Bedgerebong Public School to form the Central West Marimba Ensemble with a total of 48 students. Our students showed amazing maturity and it was wonderful to see all their dedication to many hours of practice pay off. We had four brilliant performances and demonstrated a great selection of songs over our two sets. We had so many positive comments from School Spectacular organisers and audience members about our talented students including one lady who was so proud to tell me that her dad was in the workshop for building the original marimbas at Grenfell Public School back in the 90s! The students were blown away with the School Spectacular show which holds a Guinness World Record for the largest amateur variety act on the Friday night. The students loved exploring the sights of Spec Fest and Sydney Olympic Park. We can't thank Ms Chloe Faulkner from Parkes East Public and Mrs Vanessa Faulkner from Bedgerabong Public enough for this wonderful opportunity. Thank you to the parents and to North Parkes Mine who generously contributed to this wonderful experience for our students. It has been an absolute pleasure to take these students away for four days and see them make so many new friends. We already have more exciting opportunities in the pipeline for next year! Mrs Nicole Kilby, Marimba Ensemble Coordinator.
