Landlord Crown confirmed the closure, a spokesperson stating it was a "fluid situation" and that they were looking forward to finding a new tenant as soon as possible.
Marchetti and Terzini split their business partnership in March last year. Terzini became the sole operator of Bondi restaurant Icebergs, and Marchetti, with business partners Kimme Shaw and Tony Zaccagnini, took on Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons, new restaurants in Bali and Sydney's North Italian Bondi and Nield Avenue. The latter sold early last month.
Contacted for comment, Maurice Terzini said he was disappointed to hear of the closure. "My dad's name is on it. When we divided up the properties I tried to get his name taken off but they refused."
Terzini and Marchetti opened the restaurant in 2008 with their fathers, Giuseppe Marchetti and Arnaldo Terzini, in prominent roles. Arnaldo Terzini had worked alongside son Maurice at Melbourne icon Caffe e Cucina in South Yarra in the 1980s.
Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons was an early adopter of a no-bookings policy and attracted regular queues for its noisy dining room, with its expensive and glamorous tiled fitout. It won The Age Good Food Guide 2009 award for best new interior design.
The restaurant was closed for lunch today when Fairfax Media visited. Nearby workers said it had been open yesterday but workers had removed menus from the exterior this morning at around 9am. A hand painted sign next to the door today said simply "Ciao!"
Fairfax Media was unable to reach Robert Marchetti for comment.
