The 18-strong chorus of singers aged 8 to 14 will appear on stage as part of Opera Australia's regional production of Mozart's classic.
While Opera Australia will retain the music and storyline of the original, the director and designer team of Michael Gow and Robert Kemp have transformed the script to include well-known movie references, such as The Mummy and Indiana Jones.
The choir will be led by Newcastle soprano Patricia Woods, who selected the children from her school The Woods Academy of Professional Voice and St John's Primary School at Lambton.
The aim of the night is to encourage local children to experience wider musical and cultural experiences.
Mrs Woods said the choir had been in rehearsals for eight weeks and were looking forward to their big night.
"A few of them had never been in a theatre before, and it's their first time singing with an orchestra, so it's been a bit of an eye-opener," she said.
"But they have done such a great job and have been offered to put on a few community performances after The Magic Flute."
■ The Magic Flute will be at the Civic Theatre on Tuesday, August 26. Tickets from ticketek.com.au or phone 4929 1977.
