The one-day event, Rolling Green, is run by organisers of A Day On The Green and will be held in much the same way: over one night from 5pm to 10pm, albeit to a younger crowd.
Three support acts have been locked in that are sure to sell out the allocation of 8000 tickets when they go on sale next Thursday.
Spiderbait, of Black Betty and Shazam! fame, British rockers Band of Skulls and Adelaide up and comers Bad//Dreems will kick off the festival, which organisers hope will become a yearly event.
Promoter Michael Newton from Roundhouse Entertainment said the festival had been organised in secret for around a year until they found their perfect headline act.
‘‘It all makes sense from The Black Keys down,’’ Newton said.
‘‘[Spiderbait, Band of Skulls and Bad//Dreems] are all really good live acts, and their sound is really suitable to The Black Keys, so we’re really happy with the way it’s all come together.’’
Newton said having music over one night in the wineries had always worked for A Day On The Green so there was no reason it wouldn’t work with younger bands and a younger crowd.
Ticket prices start from $100 or go to $150 for a limited capacity area in front of the stage.
Newton said organisers were conscious of having affordable accommodation for the younger crowd, and wanted to dispel the myth Pokolbin only had expensive hotels.
‘‘You can get a bus from all sorts of places in Newcastle, the Hunter, the Central Coast, and there’s two camping grounds in the Hunter Valley where you can get buses there and back,’’ he said.
‘‘The Hunter Valley is one of our really important locations.’’
The Rolling Green announcement is the latest to bring a bunch of big names to the Hunter, with Jimmy Barnes, The Living End, Roxette, The Eurogliders, The Rolling Stones, Sting, Paul Simon and The Eagles just a few headed our way in the next few months.
Rolling Green comes to Bimbadgen Estate on Saturday, April 11 2015. Tickets on sale Septemer 11 at 9am through Ticketmaster.
