The song was co-written with Danelle Leverett and Jason Reeves during a songwriting trip by Eckersley.
The song was written while Brooke was pregnant with their first child, Tiggy Heart Eckersley, who was born in November 2013.
Other finalists in the country music category included the McClymont Sisters for Going Under (Didn’t Have To) and Here’s To You And I, Newcastle musos Morgan Evans and Mark Wells for One Eye For An Eye and Adam Brand for Freedom Rebels.
Eckersley, 32, and his band, Adam Eckersley Band, won Best New Talent at the 2015 Golden Guitars.
‘‘I had the concept for the song in Nashville,’’ Eckersley said in an interview last year. ‘‘I don’t write a lot of ballads. Brooke was pregnant at the time. I had written the bridge, but I waited until I met with Jason Reeves, who writes ballads. He writes for Colby Caillat. He writes with a lot of spirit.
‘‘The day did write with them I got a call from their mananager trying to cancel the sessions. The found out I write blues and rock.
‘‘But we hit it off and the song kind of wrote itself. Reeves’ wife, Danell Leverett, was in the session. We were on the same page.’’
The song also won the country section of the 2013 International Songwriting Competition.
Part of the award-winning song follows:
Love her just the way you found her, and
Don’t you ever try to change her
Just look at her like she’s a pearl
Find a good girl you better give her the world.
