Mr Molloy and his good mate David McIntyre drove 8570 kilometres in a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 from Perth to Uluru and onto Newcastle in 10 days to raise money for Cure Cancer Australia. 

They arrived at Nobbys car park on Friday, two days removed from the Northern Territory desert, stretched their legs and dived into the surf. 

The Race to Uluru set out to raise $1 for every kilometre covered across the vast Australian plains.

 ‘‘What really sparked it is my mum and dad are cancer survivors,’’ Mr Molloy said. 

‘‘And more recently another close member of my family was diagnosed with breast cancer. 

‘‘My mum really is my inspiration. The way she dealt with the disease and turned what a lot of people perceive as a negative into a positive and raised so much awareness.’’

Mr Molly’s mother, Rose, is a community ambassador for ovarian cancer and gives talks about the symptoms of the disease and the positives of catching it early. 

The pair completed the Race Across the Nullarbor in 2014, but set their sights on a bigger challenge and more fundraising this year. During the journey they met a host of people who had been touched by cancer in one way or another. They drove during daylight hours, sometimes 11 hours a day, to make the journey. They hope to make 2016 bigger and better, with plans for more Porsche drivers from around Australia to get involved.
