FOLK singer, lo-fi punk rocker, country balladeer – St Louis-raised songwriter Angel Olsen has fluttered between each of those categorisations in her first three albums. Side A shows Olsen’s playful side on the upbeat Shut Up Kiss Me and ‘60s girl group-flavoured You’ll Never Be Mine, before the album comes insular, melancholy and reflective on the side B with the magnificent Sister and the brooding Heart Shaped Face. Throughout the 29-year-old’s versatile voice bewitches as it ranges from sweet seductress to tormented anger. Olsen is an absolutely stunning talent.
