But tomorrow the Test cricket will be his studio.
Bell is one of 12 leading Australian artists who will draw inspiration from the Sydney Cricket Ground’s 100th Test Match, in support of the McGrath Foundation.
The artists will paint around the ground during the first three days of the second Vodafone Test between Australia and India.
‘‘My goal is to capture the biggest event on the first day whether that’s Tendulkar getting his 100 or something else,’’ Bell said.
Bell, winner of the 2010 SCG Trust Cricket Art prize, has been painting for 30years. He was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2000 for his controversial portrait of his friend and comedian Steve Abbott depicted without his pants.
‘‘More than 70,000 fans attended the first day of the Test in Melbourne so it’s going to be noisy and there will be plenty of distractions,’’ he said.
‘‘But the main reason I’m doing it is to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.’’
All 12 artists have agreed to give their services and completed works to the McGrath Foundation.
Cricket and art fans can bid for the works, to be displayed online at www.pinktest.com.au from day four of the Test until bidding closes at 8.30pm on January 12.
