Founded in Notley's Paddock in 1936 in the picturesque Sugar Valley, it may be a far-cry from the original nine-hole course known as the Macquarie Golf Club, however, the changes are all positive.
Gone are the goat tracks, and in their place is a redesigned, boutique, easy-walking course, perfect for those looking for a quicker round or who find it difficult to manage larger courses.
Eighteen holes is only 3100m, easily negotiated in three to four hours at even a leisurely pace. The course provides a family-friendly environment perfect for children and seniors alike.
The layout is both great for beginners due to its size and a test for experienced golfers looking for a short-game challenge.
Nine dedicated holes with alternate tees deliver a surprisingly diverse front and back nine surrounded by an abundance of wildlife that call the course and creek that circles it home.
The result is a family-friendly environment perfect for children and seniors alike.
New signs will help those returning to Sugar Valley to navigate the course with each hole named after a local bird.
The greens and surrounds have never been in better condition thanks to Dave and his team of volunteers.
Carts are available for hire and barbecue facilities and golf clubs are available for use free of charge.
An unmatched $10 social round for unlimited holes and $5 for children under 18 is on offer.
Membership has been set at an unbeatable $260, a move that is sure to attract members, new and old.
A social membership will also be on offer for $120, which will come with $5 green fees any time social play is available, four free games and one free cart hire.
Sugar Valley offers a laid-back, country atmosphere with the convenience of being only 30 minutes from the Newcastle CBD and five minutes from the M1 and Hunter Expressway.
Located on Boundary Street, West Wallsend, you can play socially or inquire about membership to the club which has been in continuous operation for over 50 years. Ladies competition runs on Thursday mornings with the men's comp on Saturday morning.
