It comes as the Wagga man, who this week braced the cold and sat outside Bunnings with a ‘work wanted’ sign, was presented with his first job in 12 months on day three.
A “jack of all trades”, Mr Hill said he didn’t want to be unemployed, he wanted to work.
Mr Hill’s efforts were praised on popular Facebook page ‘Thumbs UP, Thumbs DOWN Wagga’ and it was his determined attitude that inspired his new Thomas Bros employers.
Toyota’s general manager Colin McGill said team members had driven to Bunnings on Wednesday morning to pick up Mr Hill and bring him in for a coffee and a chat.
Minutes later, Mr Hill was hired for a yard maintenance position, created that day.
“Unemployed mature people can find it harder to get a job,” Mr McGill said. “Our motto is ‘attitude’.”
Mr McGill said he hoped other Wagga businesses would have a good look at long-term unemployed locals, desperate for work and give them a chance.
