Wallsend Manor Aged Care is scheduled to open in February 2018.
Located at 8 McNaughton Avenue, Wallsend, the home can accommodate over 90 residents once operational.
The home will provide permanent residential accommodation for seniors who are no longer able to stay in their own home and need care and support with everyday living.
It will be a safe, nurturing and engaging environment where residents can enjoy feeling part of a community and the companionship of others.
It will offer a serene country-like setting with views across the rolling hills and a design that facilitates a sense of well-being.
There will be a secure memory support area. Therefore, residents living with dementia can receive specialised care.
The home will also have respite (short term accommodation) that provides an organised, temporary break both for carers and the person they care for.
Residents can choose from a spacious single suite with a private ensuite bathroom or a double suite where couples or friends may be able to stay together.
“Caring for residents will be a key focus while ensuring they feel comfortable, at home and part of a community,” business development manager Tom Saide said.
“It is vital that we treat our seniors with the respect and dignity that they deserve and we intend to care for them like we would one of our own family members.
“We will create a delightful atmosphere with lovely artwork, plenty of open spaces and areas to socialise.
“It’s also important to keep our seniors active both physically, mentally, socially and spiritually where possible.
“Residents will have a sense of purpose and can undertake meaningful activities and have fun along the way.
“We’ll have a fantastic leisure and lifestyle program with organised activities, live performers and entertainment.
“For example, group exercise classes, craft making, sing-a-longs, pastoral services and more.”
Wallsend Manor Aged Care will have in-house cooks and a catering team so that residents receive fresh, nutritious and healthy meals which are prepared daily.
There will also be in-house laundry facilities. There is a courtyard and landscaped gardens with walking paths so residents can enjoy the outdoors.
A feature of the home is the design.
It encompasses indoor-outdoor living with high ceilings and large glass windows that look out to a landscaped courtyard which helps to create a sense of openness and space.
The building includes a coffee hub, an aromatherapy room, a hairdressing salon, a private dining room and an activities area for art, crafts and lifestyle.
Wallsend Manor Aged Care is operated by independent group Wallsend Manor Lifestyles.
Building works have been underway for 14 months and are nearing completion.
The project has not only seen the creation of building and trade positions but it also means approximately 80 new jobs at the home which will benefit the local community. For example nurses, cooks, catering and care staff.
