A lakeside home with a heritage order on it lasted just two weeks before it was secured for a street record $900,000.
The 1920s residence at 66 Speers Street, Speers Point, was marketed by McKiernan Real Estate and was set for a February 25 auction with a price guide of $800,000 to $880,000.
Agent Andrew McKiernan said the first open home was well-attended with close to 30 groups through and interest was both local and from out of town with a buyer from Oberon finally securing the property.
“It’s just a really nice, character home,” Mr McKiernan said. “A lot of the buyers that came were people who have admired the home for a long time because it’s a bit of a stand-out in the area. There’s not a lot of this kind of property around.”
PRDnationwide’s Steve Cornes sold 3/113 King Street, Newcastle in the historic former YMCA building for $1.14 million.
He said the sale of the three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment was indicative of a trend in the city with apartments “with a bit of character and a bit bigger than new developments” proving sought-after.
First National’s Tom Lemke sold 29 O’Mara Street, Mayfield East prior to auction for $555,000. The two-bedroom home on 259 square metres was in original condition and was listed for sale for the first time in 70 years.
A four-bedroom home on over 500 square metres in North Lambton’s Fifth Street sold for $688,000 as the suburb continues to grow in popularity. North Lambton’s median sale price for 2017, according to Australian Property Monitors, was $562,000.
In Tighes Hill, a three-bedroom home on 510 square metres in Henry Street was bought for $870,000.
In Nelson Bay, a timber home in a bush setting in Dirigeree Street sold for $545,000.
A four-bedroom home in Kyamba Crescent, Maryland sold for $630,000.
