Daniel Dadich, 34, Luke O'Neill, 22, and Piergiorgio Moro, 53, have each been charged with assaulting Ricky Turner, an associate of high-profile far-right activist Neil Erikson.

The trio, on bail, briefly appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The alleged assault occurred during a violent clash between far-left and far-right protesters outside a Kensington venue where Yiannopoulos was speaking on December 4.

The clash led to five police being injured and several protesters arrested, and was broken up by several hundred officers, including dozens in riot gear.

Several groups were allegedly involved in the clash including the left-aligned Campaign Against Racism and Fascism and two right-wing groups, Reclaim Australia and the True Blue Crew.

Convicted stalker and racial vilifier Erikson and fellow right-wing activist Avi Yemini were reportedly among the crowd.

The former is known for ambushing former Labor senator Sam Dastyari in a pub, calling him a "terrorist", and for his role in protesting against the building of a mosque at Bendigo.

Dadich, O'Neill and Moro are also each charged with affray and behaving in a riotous manner outside the Kensington venue.

In addition, O'Neill is charged with assaulting Moro, and Moro is charged with assaulting Mr Turner by kicking.

Before their hearing, left-wing "anti-fascist" supporters were invited via social media to show their support by gathering outside court.

The matter was adjourned until July 5 to give prosecutors time to view footage and have discussions with police.

Erikson is due to face the same court on Friday on matters stemming from the same event.
