A FAST train from Sydney to Melbourne has been mentioned. Given that it will take two years to build two kilometres of light rail in Newcastle, then it will take 700 years to build a rail to Melbourne. That is without the 20 to 30 years talking about it and having royal commissions. It would take a few months to arrange two trips a day from Newcastle to Sydney with two stops. Fast already.

AT THE Liberal Party's annual federal council, they voted in favour of the full privatisation of the ABC. These people obviously have no idea of what the Australian public want. The ABC has been an Aussie icon since its inception in 1932. It has always been in public hands and should remain that way. The leaders of the party say this will not happen, but watch out if they win the next election. I think everything they have privatised has turned into a nightmare for the Australian people. If they have this in the back of their minds at the next election, I hope the only seat they win is the toilet seat.

SOUTH Newcastle beach skate park - another example of "consultation with the community". I am not a surfer, but when is council going to listen to what the community says?

I COMPLETELY agree with the surfers and letter writers who are concerned about the placement of the skate bowl on South Newcastle Beach. The risks of a storm undermining the bowl, the structure changing the waves, and sand and water causing danger to skaters seem to outweigh the startlingly unusual appearance of the design, and it all reminds me of Jesus' parable: the foolish man built his house on the sand, but the wise man built his house upon the rock.

IMAGINE how shocked bank robbers must be, when they break into rob a bank, only to find some real robbers have already been there, filling their pockets with customers funds. We also need to remind ourselves that banking executives are some of the biggest wage earners that the government wants to give massive tax cuts to, so as to ease their lifestyle burdens.

CONGRATULATIONS NSW Ambulance, more paramedics to be employed to reduce wait times. Or maybe it's to replace the ones struggling to cope with the job? How about you spend some money on an employee assistance program for your current paramedics so no more lives are needlessly lost before you employ more people?

I WISH this global warming scam was real. This butcher’s ageing joints don’t look forward to the 5am alarm at the moment as winter settles in, let alone the cool room full of icy cold carcasses.
