IT’S fitting that NTL Landmarks’ comeback single The Saint investigates how growing older influences one’s opinions and priorities, because the Newcastle band have matured significantly.

Three years ago NTL Landmarks, sometimes known as National Landmarks, released their self-titled debut EP.
Since then Gillian Adamson (keys), Joseph Belford (bass) and Jack Doran (drums), have joined Ryan Williams (vocals, guitar) and Lachlan Dolbel (guitar) to shift the former blues-rock three-piece towards an indie-pop sound.
“It’s almost a new band, without being a total name change and everything,” Williams said. “I feel it’s a lot more genuine now. I don’t know if I’m a blues guy really at heart.”
The impact of Adamson has been two-fold. Not only has her keyboards and harmonies provided NTL Landmarks with greater pop sensibility, her relationship with Williams has altered his worldview to provide the impetus for The Saint’s lyrics.
“I’m probably guilty of getting overloaded with work to be honest and chasing all the things I care about, but there’s also people out there I’ve got to look after as well,” Williams said.
The Saint was recorded by Pals drummer Fraser Marshall in a granny flat at Williams’ house and will be the first of three singles to feature on NTL Landmarks’ forthcoming EP, before their focus turns to releasing a debut album in 2019.
Williams’ other band, The Owls, are busy writing the follow up to last year’s Rainy Day EP. The band have been inactive since their triumphant performance at the Newcastle Supercars last November where they shared the stage with Cold Chisel and Spiderbait, following a recommendation from Ian Moss.
NTL Landmarks launch The Saint at the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel on August 20.
