The Diocesan Secondary Basketball Championships were held last week at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
St Pius Adamstown won the junior boys beating St Joseph’s Lochinvar, and in the intermediate girls St Pius defeated St Paul’s Booragul.
All Saints College had a close final in the girls junior event beating St Pius. In the intermediate boys St Mary’s Gateshead were too strong for St Pius. The winners will head to Sydney to play in the NSWCCC Championships.

All Saints College continued their history of being a dominating force in rugby league winning the NSWCCC Catholic Cup last week. They defeated Patrician Brothers Blacktown in the final 14-0.
The week prior they lost the semi-final of the NRL Schoolboy Cup to Blacktown 22-14.
St Joseph’s Lochinvar won the under-14 Cochrane Cup state final last week.
Two boys in the diocese were named in the Australian Schoolboys side: Jock Madden from All saints College and Jonah Pezet from St Mary’s College Gateshead.
Hannah Chicken, from St Joseph’s Taree, represented NSW Polding at the recent NSW PSSA Touch Championships and was named in the state team.
Hannah is one of those outstanding all rounders in sport. She was named in the NSW PSSA sides for basketball and netball earlier this year.
