Cardiff-Boolaroo Cricket Club president Matthew Maher says he expects to have at least two trial matches on the new Pasterfield Sporting Complex this month before hosting Hamilton-Wickham in the Newcastle district season opener at the same venue on September 29.
Maher said he was confident of hosting Charlestown next Saturday (September 15) and Central Coast side Kincumber seven days later (September 22) at the recently completed facility despite playing Sydney outfits Parramatta and St George at traditional headquarters Cardiff on the weekend.
“We weren’t able to get onto the ground on the weekend, but we’re hoping to start training on it shortly,” Maher said.
“The idea is to have a couple of trials on it before the first round.
“It’s new territory for everyone, but the curator is confident it will only take him a couple of weeks to get it ready once he’s on there fully.”
Other round one fixtures for 2018-2019 have defending champions Wests at home to City at Harker Oval, Wallsend host University, Stockton Northern Districts meet Charlestown at Kahibah, Merewether are away to Belmont and Toronto clash with Waratah-Mayfield.
The opening five weeks of the first grade competition are 40-over, one-day games to help decide the Tom Locker Cup finalists.
