DUST off your golden hot pants because Kylie Minogue is coming to the Hunter Valley.
Australia’s pop princess will headline A Day On The Green at Bimbadgen on Saturday, March 16 for her first performance in the Hunter or Newcastle in her 30-year career.
Sister Scissors frontman Jake Shears, Australian singer-songwriter Hatchie and a yet-to-be-announced special guest will support Minogue at what will undoubtedly be the biggest concert this summer.
The 50-year-old is Australia’s greatest ever female music export, having scored 10 ARIA No.1 singles and seven in the UK with pop classics like The Locomotion, I Should Be So Lucky, Confide In Me, Spinning Around, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head and On A Night Like This.
Minogue has also recorded five No.1 albums in both Australia and the UK, won 16 ARIA Awards and in 2011 she was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Most importantly the former soapie star, who was once derided for being a “singing budgie”, has kept critics and fans guessing by continually re-inventing herself.
A true pop-culture chameleon, Minogue’s career has traversed bubblegum pop, R&B, indie, disco and electro-pop.
Earlier this year Minogue made another sonic shift with her 14th studio album Golden, which embraces the pop-country sound of Nashville.
The album’s most popular cuts Dancing, Golden and Stop Me From Falling are expected to feature in Minogue’s Bimbadgen set list.
The Golden Tour will be the Melbourne-raised, London-based star’s first performances in Australia since 2015. The tour kicked off in England’s Newcastle upon Tyne in September where it received a five-star review from The Evening Chronicle.
Fans can expect a colourful array of costume changes from the pint-sized gay icon, including cowgirl sequins, leather pants, acid-washed denim and thigh-high PVC-heeled boots.
Reviewer Simon Duke wrote: “There was even a place for The Locomotion before Spinning Around strutted into proceedings in all its sequin glad glory. The Kiss Me Once tour was good but the Golden tour is amazing.”
Minogue was also joined by fellow Australian and former Neighbours star Jason Donovan on stage in September during her concert at London’s Hyde Park.
Initially Minogue sang the pair’s 1988 UK No.1 duet Especially For You with a choir, before Donovan made a surprise appearance on stage.
Minogue’s younger sister Dannii was due to make her debut at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre last November in support of UK boy band Take That, but the show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
Tickets for Kylie Minogue’s performance at A Day On The Green go on sale through ticketmaster.com.au on Monday, November 19 at 2pm. Prices range from $125 to $300.
