
The second man charged with murder over the death of Whitebridge man Philip Steele remains in custody after a brief bail hearing at Newcastle court on Boxing Day.
Luke Jones did not appear in the dock before the registrar on duty on Wednesday morning.
Mr Jones made no application for bail and it was formally refused.

He will face Belmont local court by audio-visual link on January 7.
The 23-year-old was charged with murder on Christmas day after police arrested him at Windale on Saturday
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of a prior injury and released on Tuesday, before he was charged.

It came after Daniel William Mahoney, 19, was charged with murder last week over Mr Steele’s death.
Police are searching for a third man they believe was involved in the alleged attack.
Mr Steele died after three men allegedly set upon him with knives and bats at his Whitebridge home in the early hours of December 17.
The 60-year-old suffered serious injuries to his arm and died soon after the incident.
