It is just one of the aspects the owners of Merewether’s 40 Kilgour Street, who wished to remain anonymous, will miss about this “beautiful place to live”.
They bought in 2010, instantly struck by the unobstructed and expansive views of Bar Beach that greeted them when they walked upstairs.
“It is spectacular; in summer, winter, autumn, in the middle of storms, night and day. And it doesn’t matter where you live in the house, you’re taking in the view,” they said.
“You can watch a storm roll in, which is just amazing. We get whales and see dolphins daily.”
The home was renovated extensively throughout in 2013-14. Upstairs is a master suite with balcony that captures stunning sunsets, a study/family space and large, open plan kitchen, dining and living area that takes full advantage of the views.

Downstairs are three bedrooms, a bathroom and another kitchen and lounge which extends through bi-fold doors to an entertaining area, pool and spa.
The home is being marketed by Robinson Property’s Mike Flook, who said he had had “serious interest from a number of buyers”.
“The stand-out feature is having the best position on that Bar Beach stretch,” Mr Flook said.
“It’s an amazing canvas that sits in front of you. It has the north-east aspect, and the breezes that comes with that, but is protected by the southerly.
“And, although it sounds like a cliche, these opportunities really are once in a lifetime. There’s only four or five homes in that cul-de-sac enclave and I wouldn’t be holding my breath for any others to come on.”
A price guide has not been disclosed and inspections are by appointment only.
The luxurious Bar Beach residence of Newcastle developers Melissa and Tony Calder-Mason at 46 Bar Beach Avenue opposite Empire Park sold for $4.25 million in December.

It was one of a number of big sales to bring 2018 to a close.
The $4.59 million sale under the hammer of a Merewether property at 4 Janet Street on December 1 is believed to be the highest residential result across Newcastle, Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie for the year.
Mr Flook marketed the home positioned on around 1400 square metres of prime real estate, within close proximity to Merewether beach and ocean baths.
