Opera star Yvonne Kenny has been named Australian of the Year in the UK at an awards ceremony in London.

The soprano from Sydney took out the Australia Day Foundation's top honour at a gala dinner at Australia House on Saturday local time.
Kenny is one of Australia's most accomplished opera singers and has won multiple Aria awards, with her 1995 record Simple Gifts becoming the first Australian classical album to reach gold status.
She divides her time between the UK and Australia.
PhD student Jessica Buck was named Young Australian of the Year in the UK while British cycling commentator Phil Liggett received the award for Honorary Australian of the Year in the UK.
Ms Buck is undertaking cancer research on a scholarship at Oxford. In 2008, she was recognised for achieving the best HSC results by an Aboriginal student.
Liggett, who has covered 15 Olympics and 46 Tours de France, has commentated in Australia and been heavily involved in the Tour Down Under.
He received the gong for his commitment to growing participation in cycling in the UK and Australia.
