However, the Magpies want to push a little bit further this time around.
Charlestown are equal third on a congested first grade ladder as the 2018-2019 campaign draws to a close with all results critical to making the top four again.
On Sunday the Magpies get an early taste of the play-offs, meeting the Rosellas (Wests) at No.1 Sportsground in the opening semi of the T20 Summer Bash.
It comes 12 months after the boys from Kahibah Oval were knocked out of the T20 title race by eventual champions the Sea Dragons (University).
Magpies captain Jed Dickson said his squad were keen to go one step further and make the decider.
“We’ve made a few semis the last few years, which is good from where we were, but now it’s about knuckling down to play some finals,” Dickson said.
This weekend the Magpies, who finished second in pool A following Sunday’s double header, will be without all three of their Sydney-based marquee players – Glenn Winsor, Tym Crawford and Thomas Ortiz.
Charlestown trio Isaac Wallace, Michael Richardson and Rory Maddison have been given the call up.
As the highest qualifier, the undefeated Rosellas were given the choice of timeslot and went with the morning session from 9am.
The second semi between the Pumas (Hamwicks) and the Whips (Belmont) follows at 12:30pm. The final is scheduled for 4pm.
