The girls have won every game of the season so far. 

But there's a catch.

They are the only girls team in the competition. 

Each week the enthusiastic bunch of players have taken on a boys side. 

They were so keen on their football after playing in the winter competition with South Wallsend last year they decided to play in the boys Futsal competition over summer. 

Peta Cifrian, mother of Neilita, said the girls jumped at the opportunity to continue playing. 

"We explained that the boys may be rougher and tougher but they didn't budge," she said.

"They signed up and ever since have not flinched once about any opponent.

"There are some old fashioned futsal rules that allow a girls team to have an extra player but never once did they use this rule.

"It's been so good to see them go shoulder-to-shoulder, no matter who they're playing against. 

"At the end of every game the girls come off with the biggest beaming smiles

"We are all so proud of the entire team."

The girls play in a semi-final, and should they make it -  a grand final - this afternoon at Newcastle International Hockey Centre. 

Frenchmans Boardriders claimed back-to-back titles at Surfest’s Orica Team Challenge at Stockton on Sunday largely thanks to the contribution of a 13-year-old grom. 

Dom Thomas rode the winning wave for the Frenchmans A team in what were testing conditions. 

With under a minute on the clock, Thomas managed to pip leaders North Narrabeen by less than a quarter-of-a-point.

The open-age team consisted of James McMoreland, Ethan Hartge and Thomas. 

McMoreland said the performance of Thomas was ultimately what decided the competition. 

“It’s hats off to our little 13-year-old grom who pretty much got us into the final and who pretty much won the final for us,” he said.

Charlestown cricketer Kade Sutton had a day to remember on Saturday with a hat-trick and a half century.

The Hunter Sports High student made 52 off 44 balls in his team's total of 8/109 against Newcastle City

And then with the ball, Sutton struck with three wickets in three balls to finish with figures of 3/8 off four overs. His first wicket was a catch in the field, followed by a bowled and then LBW. 

Unfortunately for Sutton, it wasn't enough to secure the win, with Newcastle City getting home by three wickets.
