The injury, however, has not hindered the local champion's encouragement of golfers, young and old, to give the sport their best shot.
Im still involved mentally, just not physically, the Belmont North resident said. I did play for over seventy years so I cant complain.
Im still involved in the ladies district golf association and I go regularly to my own club just to keep in touch with everyone."
Seventy years ago, golf was a different game. It was also a different era. Women golfers had to wear long skirts and stockings.
Ms Tobin only found time to play after she was married.
My father joined me up at the golf club when I was 17-years-old but I didnt play regularly. Once you married you gave up your job.
I married when I was 24-years-old. I had more time, so I played golf.
Ms Tobins family have been involved in Waratah Golf Club since its inception. Her grandfather, TC Frith, was a founding member, and her mother and father both served as presidents.
Ms Tobin has added to her familys legacy, serving for ten years as the president of Newcastle Hunter District Ladies Golf Association. The association is composed of 19 clubs in the region, including Waratah.
Ms Tobin still attends meetings to this day and was made a life member in 1996.
Then theres her sporting success.
I won the Waratah ladies championship 19 times and I won the Newcastle club championship 14 times. I only won the districts Champion of Champions once, Ms Tobin said.
I was runner up to a girl who played for the Australian representatives 11 times, which was a bit of a scream!
She has also led many successful teams.
In her final year of golf she won the districts four ball best knockout with Robyn Watt.
Ms Tobin and Ms Watt met 60 years prior, when Ms Watt travelled from Inverell to compete in Newcastle as a junior. Ms Tobin was assigned to chaperone her.
The 90-year-old's encouragement and care of players is her best known attribute.
The ladies golf association have named an annual tournament after her.
The Beryl Tobin Trophy was created to motivate skilled golfers to compete at different clubs in an open stroke format.
Ms Tobin is also passionate about supporting older players to stay on the green.
They have to change their game a little bit as they age. But they can still do it," she said.
I think youve just got to adjust youre thinking. Its a very thinking game."
