The Hill resident, originally from Norway, has been identified as the female cyclist killed in a collision with a b-double truck while riding on King Street on Wednesday morning.
Friends of Ms Nilsen said she will be remembered as a "loving and heartfelt woman", an avid cyclist and "part of the family" in Newcastle's yoga community.
Phil Maher, who is organising the event, said Ms Nilsen had been a regular customer at his shop, Hunter Organic Foods, for the past "couple of years".
He decided to host a memorial, he said, after seeing the bouquets of flowers left at the Perkins Street corner addressed to an unnamed cyclist.
"It's just to honour her passing from the world. So people know who she was.
"She was just a great person."
He invited members of the public to meet at the corner of King Street and Perkins Street, Newcastle, at 6pm to cycle down to the baths.
The memorial will begin at the circular pool at 6.45 pm.
