The Australian Futures Project has created "the perfect candidate" based on data and analysis from Roy Morgan and compares them to policy statements from the major parties and independents.
According to the Australian Futures Project almost 50 per cent of Australians believe "keeping day to day living costs down" should be the top priority followed by improving health services (31 per cent) and open government (25 per cent).
Taking action on global warming and managing the economy rounded out the top five concerns of Australians.
The so-called "perfect candidate" project compares the policy priorities of Australians with the major parties using a five-star rating.
Labor, the Greens and One Nation all scored above the current federal coalition government as being more aligned to voters - each earning three stars.
Both the Liberal and National parties were given two stars, while Katter's Australian Party was given just one star.
Australian Futures Project executive director Ralph Ashton said the purpose of the data analysis was to shift the political debate away from short-term squabbles to long-term solutions.
"The perfect candidate empowers Australians to hold our leaders to account and share that knowledge - knowledge is power and when shared, that power multiplies," Mr Ashton said in a statement.
