IT appears our wonderful maritime museum collection is destined for the Newcastle Museum. City of Newcastle, please consider not only displaying the collection in the small Link Gallery, but also extending display of maritime artefacts into the BHP Gallery, replacing the ageing Fire & Earth display. Why is the museum still using half its display space with a very tired looking BHP display? Perhaps create a smaller BHP display in Link Gallery or elsewhere.

IT'S obvious to me why Donald Trump is causing trouble with his talk of mediating in the Kashmir dispute: he needs to distract attention from his ham-fisted attempt to be presidential over the shootings in El Paso and Dayton. In two and a half years, his technique has become even more obvious: tell a lie on one subject, get nailed for it, tell another lie on another subject to make his critics move on, and then claim to be the winner of the previous argument. We here in Australia should be extremely proud that he sees fit to copy the technique of our very own Tony Abbott. It's just a pity that Donald Trump can't put a sentence together. At least Tony Abbott understood grammar and syntax.

I DON'T think Ian Roach (Letters, 9/8) understood my letter (Letters, 5/8) at all. Theories and models can be thought up and/or used by anyone, but it's only when they are validated by the evidence that they can become science. I believe the climate models have not been validated and continue to be contradicted by the observed evidence. In every other field of science that is considered a failure of the model or theory. Why should climate be any different?

I HAD a birthday last Friday and my four daughters took me for lunch to Scratchleys on the harbour. It was absolutely beautiful and I thought how lucky Novocastrians are to have such a beautiful restaurant. Neil Slater who owns the restaurant could not be more attentive as was his staff. Looking out onto the harbour watching the tug boats steer large ships out onto the ocean (and in such treacherous weather) was very interesting. I sincerely hope Scratchleys manages to stay in operation and not go the way so many places in Newcastle have since the light rail came to town. I am sure it will.

I FIND Peter Dolan's views (Letters, 8/8) so biased toward religion that he seems to think religion comes before the law and humanity. Is it really that difficult to realise that if someone is committing horrific acts on children, and they tell a priest about it at confession, then the priest has a duty as a human being to notify the police?

GOOD try Nathan Brown ('Six and out', Herald 12/8), but everyone watched you on Sunday night's sport news. We all say you're dreaming. Be a good Knight, fall on your sword and hand your keys over to someone who has a new excuse book as you are now spruiking ones you have used in years gone by. Take the show ponies and has-beens with you.
