Table toppers City maintained their undefeated record after accounting for Waratah-Mayfield by 40 runs in Wednesday's final at Learmonth Park and Smith said it was "exciting" to hold the maiden titles.
"It's a competition that's going to grow and grow," Smith said.
"It's a really good opportunity for women's cricket so it's really exciting to be the first winners."
Batting first City had solid contributions across the board with Abbey Taylor (30 not out), Clare Webber (24), Smith (17), Kelsey Miller (16) and Maddison McGuigan (13 not out) all chipping in for a total of 4-114.
Miller, who hit a six behind square leg before being stumped by wicketkeeper Skye Lovett off the bowling of Waratah skipper Fiona Mackenzie, combined with Webber for an opening stand of 28 inside five overs.
Webber also had a third-wicket partnership of 23 with Smith before being run out shortly after with a direct hit at the non-striker's end to make the score 4-64.
An unbroken effort of 50 between Taylor and McGuigan, who came together in the 13th over, saw the hosts move past one hundred.
Mackenzie was Waratah's best with the ball, taking 2-22 from her maximum four overs, while fellow off-spinner Emma Jayne finished with the economical figures of 1-5 off 24 deliveries.
In reply, City's chief destroyer and player of the final was 14-year-old, left-arm spinner Sienna Eve with 3-4 from three overs as Waratah were restricted to 7-74.
Jane top scored for the runner's up with 20 not out. Lovett and Mackenzie both made 11.
"Really proud of the girls," Mackenzie said.
"We've done really well. We knew we were up against tough opposition and we know a lot of their girls play in Sydney but we backed ourselves and having fun underpinned the whole thing."
Many players from Wednesday's final, including Taylor, Webber, Smith, McGuigan and Lovett, will continue with the Newcastle representative team for the inaugural women's T20 Regional Bash semis at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 21.
Newcastle, who progressed to the top four after eliminating Central Coast in the opening round last month, will be up against the Coffs Coast Chargers.
Smith has also retained her position in the NSW Country women's squad, which was named on Tuesday, alongside Maitland's Jaclyn Vickery and former Hunter Sports High School student Synetta Manns.
The trio will head away with the Bush Breakers to play the Australian Country Championships in Toowoomba in January.
