The Newcastle Herald's renowned sports journalist Barry Toohey has created a new weekly podcast dedicated to all things rugby league, the NRL and the Newcastle Knights as the 2020 premiership season prepares to kick off on Saturday.
Former Newcastle Knights coach Michael Hagan - a legend of the local club - joins Toohey in episode one of Toohey's News, The Podcast to discuss the Knights' season ahead.
Newcastle Herald sport: All the latest news, results and analysis from the Newcastle Knights
In 2001, Hagan - then a rookie coach - famously led the Knights' to their second NRL Premiership victory and reminisces in this first episode of what will be a season-long series about whether the club can repeat their historic rise under the guidance of their new rookie coach Adam O'Brien.
Hagan looks back on his stellar playing career, including one infamous grand final tackle on Wests Tigers star player Ellery Hanley in 1988, his transition from player to coach, and offers a revealing insider's glance at his time at the helm of the Newcastle Knights.
