Todd Mason, of McGrath New Lambton, is marketing a renovated Federation residence at 78 Bridge Street known as Hillside. It was built in 1904 by James Kilgour, brother to seven times mayor of Newcastle Robert Kilgour.
The large five-bedroom, four-bathroom home is positioned on 1100 square metres of land. It is believed to have had life as a nurse's quarters then four flats before being returned to a residence.
Narelle Beveridge grew up admiring the house and could still see its beauty when she and husband Geoff bought it in 2005.
They have renovated and restored the home to stay sympathetic to its era while making it more liveable for modern life. They put in a new kitchen and bathrooms, added a back deck and turned a pool area into a large, covered entertaining space which has been used for weddings through Airbnb. The property also has a separate teenage retreat with kitchenette and bathroom.
It is open for inspection for the first time Saturday at 12.45pm and set for auction on April 18. A price guide has not yet been set.
