And as he so often does on the footy field, Kalyn Ponga stood out.
He succeeds Mitch Barnett as recipient of the honour after the backrower claimed the prize in 2019.
Ponga joins Barnett as the only two-time winners of the Buderus medal.
While it ended in a humbling loss at the hands of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, coach Adam O'Brien's maiden season in the Hunter delivered the Knights their first finals berth since 2013.
Ponga, meanwhile, has been weighing whether to enter the State of Origin arena this year given his need for off-season surgery.
He was one of a host of Knights recognised in the club's annual awards last night, which also farewells players who are departing before next season.
