The captain arrived at the crease with Waratah-Mayfield in the precarious position of 3-17 and was eventually the last man dismissed at 263 on day one of Newcastle District Cricket Association's opening two-day round.
Hudson made 144, which is the highest score in first grade this season. The 168-ball, three-hour-and-45-minute knock featured 18 boundaries.
He was responsible for more than 58 percent of the total while out in the middle with only three other teammates, including Liam Wilson (38), reaching double figures.
Toronto batted out the remaining 22 overs finishing 3-83 and still require a further 181 runs with seven wickets in hand, which includes Brendon Charlton unbeaten on 34 and skipper Adrian Chad who safely negotiated the last delivery before stumps.
The hosts sit equal fifth on the competition ladder with 17 points, five ahead of Waratah-Mayfield who kept a recent tied result after Univeristy's appeal was dismissed last week.
Elsewhere across Saturday both Wests and Merewether have already claimed first-innings points against premiership contenders.
Rosellas all-rounder Joseph Price took 4-38 as last summer's minor premiers Wallsend were skittled for 91 at Wallsend Oval before he followed up with a quickfire 34 at the top of the order. Aaron Wivell also made 54 as Wests finished 32 runs ahead at 5-123.
Merewether bowled out Hamilton-Wickham for 82 at Passmore Oval before edging in front at 3-85 from 25 overs. The Lions welcomed back Ben Egan (44 not out) while spinners Tim O'Neill (3-21) and Courtney Moulton (3-1) shared six wickets between them. Jack Hartigan (47 not out) carried his bat for the Pumas, who were without both Webber twins, Matt and Sam.
Stockton and Northern District's opening bowler Tom O'Neill (5-28) did most of the damage against Newcastle City, who were all out for 130 at Learmonth Park. The visitors are 1-81 in reply.
University (3-81) need 56 more runs at home against Charlestown (135) while Belmont are 3-54 chasing Cardiff-Boolaroo's 111 at Cahill Oval.
