* Victorians are breathing a welcome sigh of relief, with months of compulsory face mask-wearing coming to an end as part of a further lifting of restrictions.
* South Australians have emerged from the strict lockdown: restaurants and pubs are open again; schools reopen on Monday; beauty salons and gyms are back; private gatherings of up to 50 can go ahead with one person per four square metres.
* NSW's three-month border checkpoint operation with Victoria comes to an end midnight Sunday, with Premier Gladys Berejiklian championing her state Australia's only territory "which welcomes everyone".
* SA health chief Nicola Spurrier says modelling suggested the state had a 99 per cent chance of enduring a "significant" COVID wave if it did not enforce a lockdown and "supercharge" its contact tracing efforts.
* Meanwhile, Ms Berejiklian says she would not have sent NSW into lockdown if presented with the same information.
* Senior federal cabinet minister Simon Birmingham says it's not impossible that international travel could be back on the cards next year but to do it in the first half of 2021 would be challenging.
* Aside from the various vaccines Australia is involved with, a new nasal spray with the potential to fight COVID-19 and other respiratory viral infections will be tested in the hopes of manufacturing it domestically.
* Other Victorian tweaks from Monday include an allowance for 15 home visitors per day, up from two, while outdoor public gatherings can have up to 50 people.
* More than 150 people were sprung partying overnight in an abandoned military bunker on Sydney's coastal headland in breach of virus rules.
* Victoria recorded another day with no new cases; NSW reported 11, all already in quarantine; Western Australia recorded two, both in hotel quarantine; South Australia one, a woman in her 20s who is quarantined.

* There were 14 new cases recorded in Australia - there were 11 in NSW, two in Western Australia and one in South Australia.
* The national death toll is 907: Victoria 819, NSW 55, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
