MAITLAND'S Brodie Smith has expressed mixed emotions following Australia's elimination from the women's goalball tournament at the Tokyo Paralympics, but ultimately feels a sense of pride from her Games debut.

The Aussie Belles were beaten 10-6 by defending champions Turkey in Wednesday's quarter-final, having reached the top eight for the first time.

"I am saddened to say that the Aussie Belles trail to Tokyo ends today," the 23-year-old, who is vision impaired, posted on social media.
"We went out guns blazing against Turkey, but unfortunately we were unable to secure the win to make the semis.
"While this isn't the result we wanted, I am still unbelievably proud of the effort, passion and determination of every person on this team.
"It has been such an amazing experience to compete again and play the sport I have fallen in love with. I know this is definitely not the last tournament for me.
"To everyone back home, I am eternally grateful for all of your support. All of your messages, cheers and TV screaming have been heard and greatly appreciated all the way over here in Tokyo.
"It has been an honour to represent you Australia - I hope one day I will have the same honour and opportunity to show the world sport in a way that it hasn't been seen before.
"I am proud to be an Australian. I am proud to be an Aussie Belle. I am proud to have made it as far through this tournament as we did.
"It's been a wild ride but we've done it together. I am a proud Paralympian. Proud. Loyal. Fierce."
