* NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has called for patience as the state emerges from lockdown amid concerns customer-facing staff could be at risk of abuse from rebuffed unvaccinated people.

* There were 496 new local cases and eight deaths reported in NSW on Monday, while Victoria registered 1612 infections and eight fatalities.

* Western Australia is looking to make coronavirus vaccination mandatory in some other sectors, on top of the already announced port, transport and freight workers, health and aged care staff, police and other frontline workers.

* Unions have warned coronavirus deaths could rise unless more is done to beef up ventilation, testing and social distancing at Australian workplaces.

* A fly-in, fly-out mine worker from Victoria is the latest positive COVID-19 case to cause concern in South Australia, prompting a number of new exposure sites.

* The 17 close contacts of the Launceston teenager who tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving on a flight from Melbourne have all returned negative test results. Further testing will be done later this week.

AUSTRALIAN VACCINATION NUMBERS:

* There have been 30,706,847 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to Saturday, including 166,090 in the previous 24 hours.

* Of the total, 17,838,077 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 70,236 in the previous 24 hours).

* 12,868,770 have been administered by the states and territories, including 95,854 in the previous 24 hours.

* Nationwide, 82.4 per cent of people aged over 16 have received one vaccine dose while 62.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia reported 2144 local cases on Monday: 1612 in Victoria, 498 in NSW and 32 in the ACT.

* There were four hotel quarantine cases: Two in NSW and one Queensland and the NT.

* The national death toll is 1448: Victoria 913, NSW 493, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 7, ACT 9, and SA 4. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
