NSW scored four goals but it wasn't enough to secure victory with Western Australia banging in five to claim the gold medals.
NSW had fought back from being 2-0 down after only eight minutes, and equalised on three ocassions, but every time they scored the boys from the west struck again.
Newcastle's Lukas Gremm, Edward Hunt, Bayden Smith and Ryan Woolnough all featured for NSW throughout the week-long tournament.
Gremm scored four goals in his side's seven games, including in the crucial 4-3 win over Victoria to qualify for the final.
Meanwhile, a NSW side finished third in the under-15 girls National Championships, held at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre in Broadmeadow this past week. The NSW Stars beat Queensland Gold 1-0 in the bronze medal match on Wednesday.
The under-15 boys championships were held concurrently at the same venue.
The NSW Lions, which featured Newcastle district players Angus Anson-Smith and Angus Eicher, lost the bronze medal match in a penalty shootout.
