"The terrorist cell was struck by an Israeli aircraft before it was able to carry out the launches," the military said on Monday, adding that pro-Iranian Hezbollah militants also attempted to launch drones from a civilian area at Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon.
"This is a further example of Hezbollah's use of civilian areas for its terrorist activity," the Israeli army said.
Hezbollah claimed an attack on an Israeli post near the Lebanese border and said they "scored direct hits". In retaliation, Israeli artillery and warplanes struck areas in southern Lebanon, a Lebanese security source said.
The source said Israeli warplanes targeted a house in the town of Kafr Kila. The raid caused heavy material damage in the areas without causing casualties.
He added that Israeli military also carried out a series of air raids on Labouneh, located between Naqoura and Alma al-Shaab, and fired several missiles towards the forests to chase escaping Hezbollah militants.
Later on Monday, Hezbollah said they hit an Israeli soldier gathering in northern Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said aerial attacks launched from Lebanon toward the area of Adamit in northern Israel injured five IDF reservists who were taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced the deaths of three fighters in the village of Kfar Kila, which was targeted earlier by an Israeli air raid. Since October 7, Hezbollah has lost 138 of its fighters in Israeli strikes.
Israeli jets earlier flew at low altitude over the capital Beirut and areas in south Lebanon which are close to northern Israel. Israeli military later said it carried out further air and ground attacks in Lebanon targeting "sites in which Hezbollah terrorists were operating".
Since the beginning of the Gaza war on October 7, the Israeli-Lebanese border has seen persistent confrontations with the worst outbreak of violence between the Israeli army and Hezbollah since 2006.
Israel has warned Hezbollah that the Lebanese capital Beirut faces a similar fate to Gaza if the attacks continue.
