Cronulla may be out of the title race, but the Shire still has plenty to cheer about on NRL grand final day. Caringbah-based Endeavour Sports High School have four former students lining up in the big dance with Alex Johnston and Damien Cook (Rabbitohs) taking on Paul Momirovski and Scott Sorensen (Panthers). Johnston, a former Australian Schoolboy and the school's dux in 2012, secured back-to-back Ken Irvine Medals this year as the NRL's leading tryscorer, while Cook helped NSW secure this year's State of Origin series. Momirovski and Sorensen have been two of the unsung heroes of the Panthers outfit which holds the best defensive record in the league. Sorensen, who retuned last week from a dislocated wrist, has had his best year in the top grade while Momirovski as enhanced his status as one of the best defensive centres in the league. Endeavour Sports High principal James Kozlowski said with two former students in each of the teams the school will celebrating an NRL grand final victory regardless. "It's a proud moment for our teachers and coaching staff who remember Alex, Damien, Scott and Paul as being good young men both on and off the field," he said. Sutherland Hospital emergency department nurse Annie Cook will be cheering from afar for her son Damien who plays in his maiden NRL grand final. "I'm so proud of Damien and very happy his dad is there to cheer him on," Ms Cook said. Meanwhile, Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo is one of four finalists for the prestigious Ken Stephen Medal. Mulitalo, an ambassador for Stepping Stone House charity, is passionate about his work in the community supporting teammate Fine Kula throughout his brain cancer battle, initiating the #FightforFine campaign. He also helped deliver the NRL's Voice Against Violence and League in Life programs in schools and assistedat the Skillz4me and Sharks All Abilities School program in supporting children with disabilities. He thanked the Mackay crowd after a game by gifting his boots to a young fan despite suffering a broken jaw. The winner will be announced on grand final day.
