The 20-year-old Gerringong-born Queensland State of Origin prospect is the second Knights player to make an NYC Team of the Year after back-rower Ethan Cook (2010).
Sims was acknowledged yesterday at the announcement of the team at Rugby League Central in Sydney. Former Knights NYC coach and NRL assistant Garth Brennan, who now holds the same positions with Penrith, was named NYC Coach of the Year.
Contracted to the Knights until the end of 2013, Sims will again train with the full-time squad in the off-season and has been earmarked to make his first-grade debut next year.
Tariq Sims, the North Queensland Cowboys back-rower who suffered a season-ending broken leg in May, sent his congratulations via Twitter.
The 2010 NYC Player of the Year, Tariq tweeted: ‘‘Sending a HUGE shout out 2 my lil bigger bro Korbin 4 making Toyota cup team of the yr!!’’
Korbin was selected in Queensland’s under-20 team for the inaugural NYC Origin game at Penrith in April but was ruled out due to a broken finger.
He joined older brothers Tariq and Ashton at the Broncos in 2008 as a 16-year-old, and represented Queensland under 16s that year and Queensland under 18s in 2009 and 2010.
