FROM the infamous T-Rex to the giant Plateosaurus and plated back Stegosaurus and more, dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes will be unleashed on Newcastle next year for the Walking With Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular Tour.
Based on an award-winning BBC television series, the arena show took a team of 50, including engineers, fabricators, skin makers, artists and painters, and animatronic experts a year to build.
The production will depict the dinosaurs’ evolution with almost cinematic realism including scenes of the interactions between dinosaurs, how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walk on two legs, and how the herbivores fended off their more agile predators.
The show will feature 10 species of dinosaur, spanning the 200 million year reign of the fascinating creatures.
The show will include Tyrannosaurus Rex, as well as the Plateosaurus and Liliensternus from the Triassic period, the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus from the Jurassic period, and Torosaurus and Utahraptor from the Cretaceous period. The largest of the dinosaurs, the Brachiosaurus, is 36 feet tall and 56 feet from nose to tail.
Walking With Dinosaurs last toured Newcastle in 2011, with next year’s show touted as incorporating ‘‘spectacular and colourful changes to the dinosaurs based on the latest scientific research including the likely feathering of some species.’’
