HEATH Francis retired in 2010 as a three-time Paralympian with a host of records to his name.
The athletics star bowed out as the reigning Paralympic champion in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events and after competing in three Paralympic Games and two Commonwealth Games.
Mr Francis competed in Sydney, Athens and Beijing respectively in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games. He retired with a tally of six gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
He represented Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the 2010 Games in Delhi, India.
Mr Francis studied a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle from 2000 to 2007.
The university recognised his achievements with the Sportsperson of the Year in 2006 and a Sporting Blue in 2007.
These accolades are joined by a collection of other awards he won in a career spanning more than a decade.
These include the Australian Institute of Sport Athlete of the Year 2008, an Order of Australia Medal in 2001 and the Athletics Australia Athlete with a Disability of the Year Award in 2006.
After retiring from competition Mr Francis has worked in banking and as an ambassador for Good Return, an organisation committed to breaking the cycle of poverty worldwide.
