TIM SILVERWOOD SPECIALISES IN OCEAN CONSERVATION and in particular, plastic pollution. In 2009 Mr Silverwood co-founded Take 3 – A Clean Beach Initiative, which asks everyone to simply take three pieces of rubbish when they leave the beach, waterway or anywhere.
This followed years of studying sustainability locally and internationally and working in the not-for-profit sector.
His perseverance on sustainability has elevated him to a reputable status among the academic and environmental community in Australia.
Mr Silverwood is a passionate advocate for a future Australia with advanced waste-management systems including better waste avoidance, litter reduction and resource recovery.
In 2011 Mr Silverwood participated in an exclusive research expedition to document the infamous North Pacific Gyre or Great Pacific Garbage Patch, sailing 5000 kilometres from Hawaii to Vancouver to study the accumulation of plastic in remote oceans.
Mr Silverwood continues to raise global awareness on the complex and frightening problem of plastic pollution.
Mr Silverwood is a co-founder of Circular Economy Australia, which works with business, government and the education sector to find genuine solutions to current unsustainable operations.
He is a director at ReChusable, an enterprise aiming to provide sustainable alternatives to disposable products.
