Never, we repeat never, hit the shops without your measurements! Measure everything and better yet take a picture on every angle of your space that you are shopping for. Purchasing an piece of furniture based on a guess of what the size of your space is will only leave you with an item that is way too big or small for the space and then the hassle or returning it and starting over.

Being a slave to trends
We are constantly sold on the “latest look” or “must have item of the season” but filling your space with every on trend item will only leave your space looking dated in a months time...Not to mention it appears inauthentic. Take your time when curating decorator items for the home and choose things that you really love. Always ask yourself “Will I still love this if it isn’t on trend, and in 12 months time?”
Keep it eye level
Don’t have your guests throwing their heads back to admire your artworks or to look into a mirror for a quick once over. When you take the average height of male and female Australians and apply that to the “Hang at Eye Level” theory lining the centre of your artwork or mirror around the 165cm to 175cm will keep you in the green zone. Prevent your guests leaving with a sore neck and pull out the trusty tape measure.
Itsy bitsy rugs
Rugs that barely span the width of your coffee table or dining table are too small. Be sure to purchase a rug that meets the front edge of your sofa or that the front sofa legs sit on so that your feet are touching it when seated on the lounge. The same applies for dining rooms – make sure each dining chairs fits comfortably on the rug when pulled out from the dining table.
That’s shocking
You are desperate to get the painting done now so you rush in and out of the Hardware store with the first can of paint you think will work. As it goes down thick on the walls of your bedroom you find that your can of “Ahoy Sailor” is not the relaxing tranquil blue you imagined it to be but in fact resembles a pair of shocking blue lycra hot pants you once saw in a nightclub.
