Take My Soul are a Newcastle metal-core band winning fans gig by gig.
Born from Newcastle bands Anamata, Chromatide, Enemies Or Allies and Level 8, to name a few, Take My Soul has just released single Paralyzed, complete with a video shot by fellow Novocastrian Josh Holliday, of Holliday Music. It’s already clocked up close to 30,000 views.
“We have just released our debut EP Modern Separation on all the major digital platforms and we have hard copies on the way as we speak,” guitarist Hamish Unahi tells Weekender.
“We are launching the EP at the Small Ballroom next Friday, September 21. Helping us celebrate will be local up-and-coming heavy hitters Cold Era and Central Coast metal-core legends Lycanthrope.
“Every pre-sale ticket receives a free hard copy of our EP. We would love to see a good crowd turn out to support local metal.”
Lycanthrope’s vocalist Dan Greig features on Paralyzed.
Unahi says he grew up listening to and playing thrash metal and the blues but Take My Soul’s sound is influenced by the likes of Periphery, Tool and Australian metal-core bands Parkway Drive, Northlane, Amity Affliction and In Hearts Wake.

Take My Soul formed in June last year but their songs have already enjoyed airtime on Triple J, both on Unearthed and Short Fast Loud.
“James [Strezov] was our producer and engineer at Studio 1618 and we used Sawtooth Studios to track drums and guitars – it’s great to be able to keep it all local and the production sounds huge,” Unahi says.

“We have all been involved in music for a long time and know what to expect but we are self-managed at the moment so that takes a lot of extra time.
“But we are all so passionate about the band and that makes it easier to put in the extra work and time.
“I think our main goal in the next 12 months would be to play some bigger shows and venues, and maybe a festival or three.”
Catch Unahi at The Small Ballroom with bandmates Strezov, Chris Hix, Chris Eshman and Ben Rudder on September 21. Tickets are available online at kingdomsounds.oztix.com.au or at the door.
