HUNTER students have described their Studies of Religion II exam as “fair” and “approachable”, but comprising questions focused on topics and worded in ways they weren’t expecting.

Macquarie College’s twins – Hannah and Emily Coles and Bernice and Thomas De Jager – are among the 6268 NSW students who sat the Higher School Certificate paper, which comprised multiple choice questions, including one about the 1947 Census; short answer questions, such as one about immigration instead of the expected Aboriginal spirituality topic; longer answer questions about religious traditions; and an essay about religion and peace.
“Thomas and I don’t study together – he’s laid back and I’m on the clock – but it’s been very comforting walking into exams and knowing I’m not alone,” Bernice said.
“We support each other.”
Emily said the sisters collaborated and bounced ideas off each other.
“We also put things into perspective for each other and give each other a reality check,” Hannah said.
“I don’t know how people who don’t have a twin survive the HSC.”
