PETER Sansom (Letters, 11/2) reckons the NSW government has a reputation for getting things wrong. That may be the case with Greens and Labor supporters, but I'm certainly not convinced that he is right. Before the present government came to power, we had the worst performing economy in Australia, under Labor. Within a relatively short period, our economy was rated the strongest in the country and it remains so, although we are leading the field with Victoria. Not bad really, all things considered.

SO management says the shuttle will be a success, but success can only be if it works. It hasn't even run yet so how can it be a success. So wasn't it said don't count your chickens until they hatch.

RAY, as a former news person, you might get your facts straight (Letters, 11/2). My husband, Mike Eggleston, was the national creative director of Peach Advertising, and designed the Newcastle City logo with his team, of which John Church was never a member. He was in marketing, not creative.

IF you want to get stuck, phone the Roads and Maritime Services. They know the route.

AS a frequent visitor, it was very disappointing to drive the Pacific Highway from Swansea to Newcastle on the weekend and notice the poorly maintained and untidy median strips and verges. The Lake Macquarie strip past Belmont golf course through to Jewells is especially bad. Newcastle is great city, but your front yard needs a decent mow and whipper snip.

AFTER watching the Prime Minister on the National Press Conference I decided that from now until the election his salary should be paid by the NLP. It was a great campaign speech. I guess the ALP should be paying Shorten. Both are in full campaign mode.

I WONDER how many unseaworthy boats have sunk and lives lost after being turned back by our border force. I didn't think that would be allowed on the open ocean.

IT beggars belief that we now have a way of exposing (pardon the pun) drivers who use their mobiles while driving, yet we are told that they will not act for some time! If they have committed an offence, deal with them now. The topic has been on the news for some time, so why the moratorium?
Rod Woodhouse, East Maitland
BILL Shorten has put out the welcome mat for people smugglers. Isn't it about time that Newcastle gave Labor the flick?

YOU’RE doing so good Scott Morrison that you have doubled the homeless rate.

SHOULD more ratepayer funds be diverted to upkeep the Newcastle Ocean Baths?
