It was from a fourth grade premiership in 1978-79. He was aged 15.
Four decades on and Christie can add to his collection with the same club in the same grade.
This weekend he will lead the Waratahs onto Waratah Oval as captain of the fourth grade side taking on City in the Newcastle district grand final.
It marks around half-a-dozen deciders for Christie, including two losses in the first XI, for a 50 percent strike rate.
"When you're younger you think they [finals] are going to come around all the time, but they are hard to come by," Christie said.
Christie will be joined by fellow experienced campaigners Todd Hearne and Michael Redpath, who he believes are both playing in their first ever final.
Elsewhere in lower-grade showdowns, minor premiers Wallsend and Charlestown host Merewether in seconds and thirds respectively.
