About 7.30am, a Suzuki Swift and a Toyota Yaris travelling in opposite directions collided at Salt Ash.
A member of the public stopped to assist the male driver and two female passengers of the Suzuki.
The driver approached the car belonging to the man assisting and allegedly tried to leave the scene.
The man got his keys back and the Suzuki driver then ran off into the bush.
Police would now like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
He is described as being 27 old, 160-165cm tall with a thin build, and black hair.
