TIME FLIES Winnie's Jamaican at Finnegans on Newcastle's Darby Street is turning two and to celebrate, chef Jamie Thomas is throwing a party like only he knows how. "Winnie's presents Reefer Madness" is on Thursday, July 4, and is an all-vegan affair. "Numbers are very limited and we will have a DJ in spinning tunes from the Trojan Records label. Grab some mates and book a seat. No food is over $10 a plate," he says.

GOOD CAUSE Muse Restaurant's Troy Rhoades-Brown helped to raise close to $1 million for Starlight Children's Foundation at the recent Starlight Five Chefs Dinner. One of the prizes - accommodation at Lovedale's White Vale Estate with dinner cooked by Rhoades-Brown and former Maitland chef Josh Niland - sold for $41,000. Impressive.
DOORS CLOSED The building housing The Residency Collaborative Kitchen on Newcastle's Bolton Street has been sold. Future pop-up dining events remain a possibility, says founder and chef Bob Abbaszadeh, but at a different location.
