Police allege a 32-year-old man presented at a fire station on June 26 suffering a partially severed finger, cuts and bruising.
He was taken to the John Hunter hospital and had his finger surgically removed.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District detectives began examining the circumstances around the injuries, leading them to arrest a 40-year-old man at a Blue Haven property on Monday.
The 40-year-old was taken to Wyong police station, interviewed and later charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail to face Wyong Local Court on Tuesday.
Police said investigations are ongoing as they seek a second man they believe to be involved in the alleged incident.
